John Lolley, P.E. was formed in 1990 and has provided clients with experienced structural and civil engineering services to meet the Island’s increased engineering/design complexities associated with FEMA, the Massachusetts building code and local regulatory agencies to improve building resilience against coastal storms and hurricanes. We now have three experienced engineers providing services to clients, architects, builders and local Island governments.

Through the years, our Structural Engineering/Design projects have included:

  • Commercial
  • Historic
  • Local governmental
  • Single family custom homes
  • Healthcare
  • Commercial build outs
  • Hotel renovations

We are called on to engineer and develop construction drawings for retrofits to existing building to meet current code requirements. Civil Engineering projects have included:

  • Storm-water drainage design
  • Bio-retention ground water replenishment basins

We provide clients with “estimating drawings” needed to generate preliminary project cost estimates for a budget evaluation by the client, giving them an opportunity to adjust the scope of work if necessary.

Using our continually updated in-house computer systems, we develop our clients’ projects in both 2-D and 3-D formats within relatively short time frames, insuring build-ability for the contractor and cost efficiency for the client.

John Lolley, PE
John Lolley, PEPrincipal
MA License #33766

John has been a practicing engineer on Martha’s Vineyard since 1987. Prior to 1987, he worked as a project engineer on large industrial projects for Scott Paper Company in Maine and Hooker Chemical Company in New York. Since moving to Martha’s Vineyard, he has provided civil and structural engineering services for both residential and commercial clients. Commercial projects include soil investigation and foundation design for the Mattapoisett Library; foundation inspection services for the Martha’s Vineyard Hospital and the Boat House in Edgartown; civil, structural, soil, foundation, permitting and project management services for the Colonial Inn in Edgartown, Tisbury’s Woodland Center, and the Vineyard Haven Yacht Club; construction engineer for the Edgartown Wastewater Treatment Plant. Residential projects include restoration and code compliance for private homes, evaluating structural damage caused by hurricanes and nor’easter storms and developing design modifications; pre-purchase structural inspections for real estate buyers; engineering and construction supervision services for both local and “off-island” architects and clients; present projects for approval to both local boards and regional planning agencies.

Casey Decker, PE
Casey Decker, PESenior Engineer
MA License #54269

Casey graduated from the University of Massachusetts at Dartmouth in 2012. He spent the 2009-2010 academic year studying engineering in Sunderland, England and traveling throughout mainland Europe and the British Isles. The next school year he joined the Umass Dartmouth ASCE chapter. Each year the team builds a concrete canoe and races them against other colleges and universities throughout New England. In his senior year, he was appointed President of ASCE and took home 5th place overall in the competition. After graduation, Casey moved back to the Vineyard to begin working as an intern under John. In 2013 Casey passed his Engineer in Training (EIT) exam and became an Associate. Casey brings the knowledge and ability to incorporate 3D modeling, AutoCAD, and structural design software to the office. During his time with John Lolley, PE his focus is structural engineering for both residential and commercial buildings.

Luke Sederholm, EIT
Luke Sederholm, EITAssociate Engineer
RI License #0210067

Luke graduated from The Pennsylvania State University in 2015 with a B.S. in Civil Engineering and a minor in Environmental Engineering. Luke also studied at the University of Wollongong in Australia during the fall of 2015, where he reinforced his knowledge in water sensitive urban design. Shortly after Luke achieved his certification as Engineer in Training (EIT), he started his position as an Associate Engineer for John Lolley, PE. With the wide range of projects the firm has been involved in, Luke has gained experience in many disciplines of structural and civil engineering. He has worked on many projects including commercial buildings, custom residences, stormwater management, earth retaining structures, permitting, and project management. Luke is adept in the use of various drafting and engineering design softwares such as Sketchup, AutoCAD, REScheck, TEDDS, and ConstructionOnline, which help produce optimal project cohesion.
